New Marriage and Divorce Statistics Issued
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released the 2013 statistics on marriage and divorce revealing some key trends.
Divorces
- There were 47,638 divorces in 2013. A drop of 4.6% from 2012.
- The median duration from the time of marriage to divorce was approximately 12 years.
- Parties were most likely to divorce in their early forties.
- Most divorce applications were applied for jointly.
Marriages
- There were 118,962 marriages registered in 2013. A drop of 3.5% from the previous year.
- The majority of marriage ceremonies are conducted by civil celebrants.
- The median age to get married in 2013 was 31.5 years for males and 29.5 years for females.
